American Hostages in Somalia Rescued

This past Tuesday, the 24th, two kidnapped American international aid workers were rescued from Somalia after months of being held in captivity. Jessica Buchanan, 32, and Poul Thisted, 60, were kidnapped on October 25 in the city of Galkayo, Somalia. They were not kidnapped by any particular terrorist group, but by general criminals, possibly pirates, as the area they were kidnapped is a hub of piracy. On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Special Forces parachuted into Somalia and advanced on foot to the compound that the two were held in. The group that invaded included the same Navy SEAL unit that killed Osama bin Laden last year. There were 9 gunmen guarding the hostages, all of whom were killed. Both Buchanan and Thisted were rescued safely, and were taken to a medical center, though neither was hurt. They are meant to be arriving to their homes on Thursday, the 26th.
